Meta acquired PlayAI, PlayHT’s parent company, on July 12, 2025, in a deal widely described as an acqui-hire for its voice AI team. Reports say the PlayHT API went offline later in July 2025 and the consumer platform was terminated on December 31, 2025, with user data deleted. PlayHT is no longer available to new or existing customers.
