Every blog post you have already written is a ready-made video script. Pictory’s URL to video feature reads a web page, summarises it into a script, matches visuals to each scene and adds captions and narration, so a single article becomes a YouTube video or social clip in minutes.
Follow this step-by-step guide to turn your first blog post into a video, using Pictory’s 14-day free trial.

Step-by-step: blog post to video in Pictory
Step 1: Open URL to video
On the Pictory homepage, click URL to video. A pop-up window opens.
Step 2: Paste your blog post URL
Paste the full link to your article in the URL box and select the video type that fits your content (for example, an explainer or a social post).
The page must be publicly accessible. Pages behind a login or paywall cannot be read.
Step 3: Tell Pictory how to summarise
In the text field, describe how you want the article summarised, for example: “Focus on the 5 steps, keep it under 90 seconds, end with a call to read the full guide.” Optionally choose the platform and video duration.
Short videos (60–90 seconds) work best for social media. Use 3–6 minutes for YouTube.
Step 4: Generate and review the script
Click Generate script. Pictory summarises the page into a script. Read it carefully and remove anything that does not make sense without the full article.
Step 5: Refine the script with the AI Bar
Use the AI Bar to improve the script: Ask AI, Optimize (video type, platform and tone), Rephrase, Shorten, Lengthen or Change tone. After each prompt, choose whether to replace your script, add the result to the end, regenerate or cancel.
Rewrite the first sentence as a hook, a question or a surprising fact. The first three seconds decide whether people keep watching.
Step 6: Set format and branding
In the video settings, match the video format to your platform; this sets the aspect ratio (16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for LinkedIn and Instagram feed). Add your brand kit for consistent fonts, colours and logo. Pictory recommends keeping the default scene settings.
Step 7: Generate the video and edit the storyboard
Click Generate video to open the storyboard. Go scene by scene: swap any visual that does not match the sentence, check captions, and choose an AI voice that suits your audience.
Step 8: Preview, export and publish
Preview the full video, then export it. Upload it to YouTube or social media, and embed it back into the original blog post to keep readers on the page longer.
Which blog posts make the best videos?
| Post type | Good for video? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| How-to guides | Excellent | Clear steps become clear scenes |
| List posts (“7 ways to…”) | Excellent | Each item is one scene |
| Comparisons | Good | Use a short summary and on-screen table |
| Opinion or long essays | Harder | Need heavy editing to work as video |
| News updates | Good for social | Short, timely clips perform well |

Frequently asked questions
Can Pictory turn any website into a video?
Pictory can read most public web pages. Pages behind logins, paywalls or heavy scripts may not import correctly; in that case, paste the text into a script-to-video project instead.
Is Pictory free?
Pictory offers a 14-day free trial with up to 3 video projects. After that, Starter costs $25 per month billed yearly or $29 monthly.
How long should a blog-to-video be?
Aim for 60–90 seconds for social media and 3–6 minutes for YouTube.
Can I use my own voice?
Yes, you can record or upload your own voiceover instead of an AI voice in the storyboard editor.
Does embedding the video help SEO?
Embedding a relevant video can improve engagement on the page and gives you another way to reach people on YouTube.
