How to Add the Text Chat Widget to Your Website or WordPress

Your AI agent can only help visitors once the chat widget is on your site. Installing it takes about five minutes: you copy one snippet and paste it once in a global place such as your footer.

Method 1: HTML snippet (any website)

Step 1: Open Website widgets

In the Text app, go to Settings → Website widgets.

Step 2: Enter your website URL

Type your site address. You can preview the code even if the site is not live yet.

Step 3: Choose Embed code

Select </> Embed code and click Continue. The HTML tab opens by default.

Step 4: Copy the snippet

Click the generated code to copy it. If a developer installs it for you, use Share setup link instead.

Step 5: Paste it before </body>

Paste the snippet just before the closing </body> tag, in a global footer or layout file so it loads on every page. Save and reload your site.

Step 6: Confirm it is connected

Back in Website widgets, check the status. If it does not say Connected yet, open your site and click the widget once.

Method 2: WordPress

Text offers a dedicated WordPress integration; follow the “Add Text widget to WordPress” article in the Text Help Center if you prefer a plugin-style install. If you would rather paste the snippet yourself, this method works with any theme:

Step 1: Install a header and footer plugin

In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New and install a code snippets plugin such as WPCode, if you do not already use one.

Step 2: Add the snippet to the footer

Create a new snippet, paste the Text code, set the location to Site Wide Footer and activate it.

Step 3: Clear your cache

If you use a caching or optimization plugin, purge the cache so visitors see the widget.

Some optimization plugins delay or combine JavaScript. If the widget does not appear, exclude the Text script from “delay JS” settings.

Method 3: Google Tag Manager

Create a new Custom HTML tag, paste the Text snippet, set the trigger to All Pages, then preview and publish the container. Text has a separate Help Center article with GTM details.

After installing: quick checklist

  • The widget appears on desktop and mobile
  • It does not cover your “Add to cart” or cookie banner buttons
  • Your AI agent is switched to Accept chats
  • Your privacy policy mentions the chat tool and the data it collects

Frequently asked questions

Can I use one Text account on several websites?

Yes. Click + New website widget for each site; each one gets its own snippet. To route each site to a different agent, see running multiple AI agents.

Will the widget slow down my site?

Any third-party script adds some load. Install it once in the footer and test your page speed before and after.

Wrap-up

Copy the snippet from Settings → Website widgets, paste it once in your site footer (or via WordPress, GTM or Shopify), and confirm the status shows Connected. Then set up your AI agent if you have not already.
